
The SCAS offers Undergraduate Research Awards in Four categories. To receive these awards, you must participate in the Annual Meeting. Undergraduate students may become eligible for these awards by either giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. To register for the Annual Meeting, click here. Please note that your membership with the Academy of Science must be up to date, in order to present at the meeting.
1. SCAS/Sigma Xi Awards for Outstanding Undergraduate Research. These $100 rewards are given to the presentations that best represent outstanding undergraduate research in each topical session plus the poster session. The award is funded by the Charleston, Charlotte, and Clemson Sigma Xi chapters and by the SCAS. The Sigma Xi chapters invite the winners in schools nearest to them to their annual banquet to receive the award.
2. Horace Byrne Explorers Club Award for Outstanding Frontier Science by an Undergraduate Scientist. This $100 award is sponsored by the Explorer’s Club of Columbia, S.C.
3. Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Research in Invertebrate Biology. This $250 award is given to the student who presents the best research on a topic related to invertebrate biology. This award is sponsored by an anonymous donor.
4. AAAS Award to the Best Male and Female Scientist. This award is based on presentations at the Annual Meeting. This award is sponsored by AAAS and carries a year’s honorary membership in AAAS that includes a year’s subscription to Science.
